Obituary of Lloyd F. Nelson

Lloyd F. Nelson, 94, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior with his family near his side on August 14th, 2021. Lloyd was born on April 5th, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Duluth, a 1945 Graduate of Denfeld High School, and a long-time employee of Minnesota Power. Lloyd was an active member of First Covenant Church.  His family and Christian faith were the most important aspects of his life.  Lloyd was a World War 2 veteran having served in the US Navy aboard the USS Telfair. He was a VFW Life member.  Lloyd was also known for his sense of humor. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Ellen Nelson, brothers Raymond and the Rev Warren Nelson, brothers-in-law George and Ernest Swanson and Carl Lindquist. Sisters-in-law Joan and Marilyn Nelson and Lillian and Eileen Swanson.

On September 8, 1951 Lloyd married Helen Swanson and began a wonderful marriage that lasted almost 70 years. “Mrs. America” was the love of his life. Lloyd is survived by his wife Helen, sons Jeffrey (Julie) of Scottsdale Az and David (Michael) of Golden Valley, MN. Brother Rev Roger Nelson, sisters-in-law Caroline Nelson, June Lindquist, May Nordling and brother-in-law Vern Nordling. Lloyd is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled on Friday, September 10th at First Covenant Church with visitation at 10am and service at 11am. The family asks that memorials be given to First Covenant Church. Arrangements made by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
