Obituary of Virgil E. Oltmans

Virgil E. Oltmans, age 79 of Apple Valley, MN passed away on August 17, 2021. Virgil was born in Adrian, MN to Walter and Marie (nee Brunk) Oltmans on July 5th, 1942. Virgil grew up in Luverne, MN and graduated from Luverne High School in 1960. After graduation Virgil joined the U.S. Navy from 1960 – 1963. Virgil worked in the heavy-duty truck equipment industry until his retirement in 2008. Virgil had a variety of hobbies from woodworking to anything mechanical. His favorite was street rodding. He built three street rods: 1948 Ford Coupe, 1929 Ford Model A, and a 1940 Ford Pickup. Virgil belonged to the Southern Cruzers Car Club, MSRA (Minnesota Street Rod Association) and Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. He attended many cars shows where he won many awards on many of his street rods. Virgil is survived by wife Carol of 56 years, son Aaron & partner Mark and family dog Bella. Also survived by sister Victoria (Harlan) Groenewold, niece Linda (Jerry) Loonan, nephew Larry (Brenda) Groenewold, and niece Nancy (Kenny) Feeken.

Funeral services on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11:00 am, visitation one hour before at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 14980 Diamond Path W, Rosemount, MN. Private internment will be at Fort Snelling cemetery at a later date to be determined. Memorials to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or to donors’ choice.
