Suzanne Moore

Obituary of Suzanne Moore

Suzanne Jean (Claveau) Moore, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2021.  She was in her lovely gardens surrounded by her 3 children and husband of 60+ years.  Family was forefront in all she did and she was known for her kind and compassionate spirit and smile.  She was the amazing “Grandma Zan” who had a special bond with each of her 6 Grandkids.

Suzanne was born on April 24, 1938 to Wesley and Juanita Claveau in Lakeside.  She graduated from Duluth East HS Class of ‘56 and attended UMD none of which prepared her for being an avid Packers fan.  She was a skilled gardener that shared friendship and adventures over flowers with her dear friend Kay.

Her husband Dick was the center of her life. They were best friends, business partners and she was his everything. He’s grateful for her lifetime of devotion she gave him and all of her delicious meals, although they might not have been at traditional times.  He never left her side and cared for her, along with their family, during a courageous battle with Corticobasal syndrome, a rare form of Parkinsons.

She spent countless hours supporting her sons and grandsons in hockey. Driving to practices, making hotdishes, washing equipment, traveling to hockey games all over the world: Sweden, Russia, USA Sports Festivals, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and traveled all the way to Pickwick for old fashions after home games. She was also passionate about Bulldog Hockey as she served as the Blueline Auxiliary President.

Her early jobs included Northwestern Bank of Commerce as a paying and receiving Teller, and as a vet tech in Colorado Springs. After moving back to Duluth she opened a dog grooming business, she loved animals and passed that on to her daughter and Granddaughters.  Her financial skills and work ethic, second to none, served their family businesses well including Fox Valley Estates in Appleton, Wisconsin and the Outlaws Hockey team in Texas. Time was also found to volunteer for St. Marys Hospital, visiting her brother Tom and his family, supporting her granddaughter's activities and Junior League of Duluth.

She is much loved by her husband, Richard; children, Christy (Jim) LaPlante of Racine, WI and kids Erin, Garrett & Maren, Skeeter of Duluth, MN and son Meirs, Richie (Sue) Moore of Granger, IN and daughters Megan & Natalie; brother, Tom (Karen) Claveau, Brainard, MN; and many nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws.  The family thanks their many friends and neighbors, especially Suzanne’s home healthcare team headed by Carol with Stephanie, Crystal and Jill.

A funeral is scheduled on August 25th, 11am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions to support ending Parkinsons  at michaeljfox.org are equally welcomed.
