Obituary of Edward O'Hara
Edward O’Hara died on August 14, 2021 at the Veterans Home in Minneapolis. Ed was 97 years old. He was born in 1923 in Glencoe, Minnesota, to Joseph and Leila O’Hara. Ed was first and foremost a family man.He married Marian Tessmer of Glencoe on June 18, 1947. They were married for 74 years and were sweethearts to the end. Ed and Marian raised nine children and had 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ed will be best remembered for his irrepressible sense of humor, a wonderful quality that has been passed on to succeeding generations. (Thanks Dad for this gift!). His fun-loving attitude attracted a large network of family and friends who were charmed and amused by his quick wit. Eddie O graduated from Glencoe High School and attended Notre Dame University before serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. He continued his schooling and graduated from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He then took a job at Hormel Foods and worked as a salesman for 35 years in the Minnesota cities of Austin, Redwood Falls, Rochester and Bloomington. He retired in 1984. After retirement, he and Marian were able to spend more time at the family cabin at Lake Hubert in Nisswa. Edward is survived by Marian and nine children: Mike (Connie) and Dan (Jennifer) of Rochester, MN; Mary of St Petersburg, Fl; Molly (Norv) of Seattle, WA; Pat (Mame) of Chandler, AZ; Tim (Suzie) and Katie (Bill) of St. Paul; Megan (R.T.) and Bridgid of Minneapolis; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a younger brother, Terry, of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Shannon O’Hara. We want to thank the wonderful staff at the Veterans Home for all their care and compassion through the five years that Ed was there. There will be a funeral service for Ed on October 1 at 3 p.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 2836 33rd Ave S, Minneapolis. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
