Obituary of Benedict Karl Herda
Benedict Karl Herda, 65, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 3rd from natural causes.
Ben was born on July 9, 1956, to George and Winifred Herda in New London, Connecticut.
Born into a Navy family, Ben attended schools in Hawaii, California, Japan and Minnesota, graduating from Albany High School in 1975. He went on to study civil engineering at Ridgewater College.
After graduating, Ben moved to Denver, CO to begin his career. Several years later, he moved back to Minnesota to work at PlanMark, specializing in civil engineering design for new, large construction projects for SuperValu until he branched out on his own as an independent contractor.
Guitar music, both acoustic and electric, was Ben’s first love. Though extremely talented as a musician, in addition he was a gifted composer. Having lived in Colorado for many years, alpine skiing with great friends was also a lifelong passion.
Ben is preceded in death by his father, George, and sister-in-law Lynn (Heinen) Herda. He is survived by his mother, Wini; sister, Kerstine (Mike Smith); brothers, Vince, Paul (Paula), Alex; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Ben’s unique life will be held on Sunday, August 15th, from 1-4 pm at Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, the Minnehaha Room, 4610 County Road 44, Minnestrista, MN, 55364.
