Obituary of Laurie Jean Herje

Herje, Laurie J. (Engwall) Age 60, of Plymouth, MN passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2021, in her home and surrounded by her family, after a fierce battle with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. She was born October 16th, 1960, to Robert and Sylvia and grew up in Golden Valley. Laurie married Robb on November 19th, 1988. Laurie was a wonderful mother to their three children, Nicole, Nathan, and Samantha, and loved being with her family and her dogs. She loved traveling and spending time at the cabin in Crosslake. Laurie was passionate about volunteering and leadership. Laurie was a Sunday school teacher, a girl scout leader, and a soccer coach for her children's teams for many years. Laurie was passionate about consumer relations and building strong relationships with her colleagues. She started her career at Pillsbury, working in fulfillment operations, before transitioning to Gage Marketing and Archway Marketing Services, where she served as the Director of Consumer Fulfillment. She later transitioned into retail and sales where she was a store manager for Bath and Body Works, a recruiter for Girl Scouts of River Valleys, and ended her career as a Beauty Consultant for Walgreens where she was a top sales leader. Since being diagnosed with lung cancer, Laurie was involved with A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation. She was an advocate to help stop the stigma of lung cancer through public service announcements and advocating to increase research for this devastating and underfunded disease. Survived by her loving husband of nearly 33 years, Robert; daughters, Nicole and Samantha; son, Nathan (Taylor Garvais); sister, Cheryl (Charlie); brother, Daryl (Linda); nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and close friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sylvia; nephew, Charlie Jr. The Herje family is grateful to North Memorial Hospice, North Memorial Cancer Center, and A Breath of Hope for the amazing support they have given Laurie and her family.
