Obituary of DaWayn Herbert Johnson

DaWayn “Dewey” Johnson of Carlton, Mn, died peacefully at home on July 4, 2021. He was born October 9, 1934 to Caroline and Herbert Johnson in Red Wing, Mn. He attended a one room school, Red Wing High School, University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin, Superior.

Dewey taught art and phys ed at Cloquet Senior High for over 35 years. He also was assistant football coach. He painted signs and owned a golf course, Pine Hill in Carlton.

Growing up on the Mississippi River, Dewey learned to love hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed many fishing trips to the BWCA. He was an excellent artist, a great teacher, and a loving husband and father. Always positive and optimistic, he was a friend to many.

Dewey is survived by his wife Jean, his brother Darreld, his children Randy (Cherie), Jill Salo (Chuck), Jody Meyer, Scott (Mary), Brynna Burnes (Andy), and Britt Simula (Derik), 15 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life is being planned for later this summer.
