Obituary of Ronald W Scott

Ronald W Scott, 88, of Duluth, passed peacefully, on June 11, 2021, in his home at Keystone Bluffs.

Dad was born and raised in his beloved Riverside. We will always cherish his memories and stories of all the mischief he got into with his friends and family.

He graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1950 where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Marion McMillan. He played hockey and football for the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and joined the ROTC, graduating in 1955.

Dad began his service to our country (USAF) in 1955. He was a fighter pilot, flying the F105, the largest single seater built in history, at that time.

He was a Vietnam veteran. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Silver Stars, and two air medals, among others. His military career sent him and family to many wonderful world wide assignments, but Dad always said his favorite assignment was at Elmendorf AFB, in Anchorage, Alaska, because his entire family was old enough to enjoy it. His proud service to country ended in 1975. He retired with the rank of Major, USAF.

Following his service he was a skilled handyman who could fix anything (sometimes having “spare parts” that he was convinced were never needed). He loved building and repair jobs until he retired, and if any of his kids or grandkids needed anything fixed, well, “we better call Papa, he can fix anything!”

Dad was preceded in death by his loving daughter Jill Ann Boyat, and his parents, Walter and Edna Scott. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marion (McMillan), his son, Jeffrey (Cyndi), daughters, Glenda (Grady Brown), Sherri Blesener (Erik), son-in law, Kyle Boyat; grandchildren, Tiffany, Kaleb and Wyatt Scott; Erika and Adam Blesener; Meagan, Ian and Hannah Boyat; great granddaughters, Jordyn and Calli, and his extended family of his “kids at Keystone Bluffs” staff, who he loved dearly!

Family and friends will gather to remember him, July 13, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 p.m, with military honors at 4:00 p.m., at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth MN. Due to COVID-19 current restrictions, masks will be required. He will be laid to rest at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Duluth.
