Obituary of Brian C Johnson

Brian C. Johnson, age 77, of Proctor, MN, died May 23, 2021 after a battle with Progressive Necrotic Pancreatitis. He was born, June 26, 1943, in Grand Rapids, MN to Patricia (Hoy) and Clarence R. Johnson.

He graduated from Greenway High School June 1, 1961, Itasca Junior College (Dean’s List) 1963, Bemidji State College, Bachelor of Science Cum Laude, (major in mathematics, and a minor in physics) June 1965. He married Betty (MacFarlane-Tarbuck) in Grand Rapids, MN on Nov 17, 1967. Brian was a Math Teacher at Proctor High School for most of his career, retiring in 2000. He was an assistant ski coach in Cloquet 1967-1969 and helped guide the team to 3 state championships. He also worked as a building contractor and enjoyed using his carpentry skills that he had learned at a very young age. He made podiums for various schools/ venues/teachers during his retirement to give something back to the educational system that he had been a part of for so many years. He also enjoyed owning his 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS which he showed and had won many trophies.

Brian is survived by his wife, Betty, son Chad (Kris) Johnson, daughter Celeste Tarbuck (Mike Loftus), daughter Heidi Tarbuck, daughter in law Beth (Whalon) Tarbuck (son Paul Tarbuck who just passed from COVID-19 May 1, 2021), brother Gary Johnson (Sandi), sister Gail Voigt, sister Dawn (Dell) LeClair, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Forbes United Methodist Church 33 Grove St. Proctor, MN on June 17 at 1:00 pm. Masks are required.
