Obituary of Eunice Hansen
Eunice Anne Hansen, age 84, of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed in her sleep on May 7, 2021, after bravely battling cancer. She is joining her husband James Hansen, parents Rudolph and Frieda Schroeder; and siblings, Robert Schroeder, Lorna Schnell, and Lorraine Parsons in heaven. She lives on through her children, Kristin (Steve) Moyer, James (Pam) Hansen, Jr., Erica Prochaska; grandchildren, Lauren Soderberg, Joseph Moyer, Kaylie Prochaska, William Prochaska, and Gerrilee Hartman; great grandchildren, Alexander Shin, Allison Hartman, and Freyja Soderberg; and many more relatives and friends who loved her.
Eunice was born on January 12, 1937, in Austin, Minnesota to Rudolph Frederich and Frieda Alice Schroeder. Her father was a Lutheran pastor and Eunice began her spiritual life at Trinity Lutheran Church in the countryside of Dexter, near Austin, Minnesota. The family moved from Austin to Tyler, Minnesota in 1943 where Eunice graduated from high school in 1954. It was in Tyler high school that she met her husband, James (Jim). She was a cheerleader, and he a basketball player. After Eunice was injured and broke her jaw on the basketball court when a player ran into her, Jim went to visit her at the hospital and the rest is history. Eunice and Jim were married on June 5, 1955.
Eunice was a great cook and loved to create special meals for her family, particularly fantastic holiday meals. She had a great love of music, playing bass clarinet in high school, singing in the church choir at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and playing the piano. Eunice was a talented seamstress and no project was too big for her. She made beautiful clothes for her kids, formal gowns and wedding dresses, tailored suits, coats and jackets, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, pleated and lined draperies for her home, and much more. She loved to fish and golf with her friends and family. She adored animals and doted on her golden retrievers, Joe and K.C.
Eunice’s family thanks Heritage of Edina, the assisted care facility and staff that took care of Eunice in her final years. Thanks to their care, we enjoyed a few more years together. Thank you also to the Methodist Hospice team (Kari, Terri, Emily, LeeAnn and more) who provided such compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held June 26, 2021, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue, So., Edina, MN. Private interment at Fort Snelling.
Is it not a beautiful fancy?
This sunset thought of mine:
That the gates of heaven are always
Open at the day’s decline;
That those whose day is ended
Of earthly woes and ills
Have passed to the morning’s brightness
That shines on the heavenly hills.
