Sandra Grondahl

Obituary of Sandra J. Grondahl

Sandra J. Grondahl, age 74, passed away peacefully May 18, 2021 at her home in Duluth, with family at her side. Sandy was the only child born to Dewayne and Betty Berg in Duluth, MN. She grew up in Morgan Park and graduated from Morgan Park High School, where she was a Majorette, in 1964.

After high school Sandy pursued a career in Nursing and worked as an LPN for over 40, she was employed at Essentia Health (St. Mary’s Hospital) and Lake Shore Lutheran Nursing home.

Sandy married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Grondahl in October 1965 and moved up to the Woodland neighborhood in 1970 where they raised their two children Rick and Shelly.

For twenty years, Sandy and Bill enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the Otter River Road at Island Lake. No matter the season, there was always an activity, whether it be boating or snowmobiling, the lake was a special place. In 2003, Sandy and Bill decided to trade lake life for beach life and split their time between Duluth and Naples, Florida. Sandy always looked forward to family coming down South to visit. She had such wonderful friends in Minnesota and Florida and will be sadly missed in both locations.

Sandy is survived by her husband Bill and children Rick (Marnie) Grondahl, Shelly (Tim) Schaeffer. Four grandchildren; Jake and Paige Grondahl; Nick (Courtney) and Ben Schaeffer. Brother-in-law Jim (Pat) Grondahl and sister-in-law Mary Lou (Gary deceased) Anderson.

She was preceded in Death by her parents Dewayne and Betty Berg.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Essentia Hospice for the care they provided to Sandy during this past month.

Memorial Service will be held at the Cremation Society of MN. 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth on Tuesday May 25, 2021 at 3:00pm with visitation one hour prior. Please note masks are required.
