Judith Hansing

Obituary of Judith Mae Hansing

Hansing, Judith Mae (Judey)

Age 76, of Golden Valley, passed away on December 12, 2020 from Covid 19 and dementia.

Born on October 31, 1944, Judey spent her first year in hospital where she surprised everyone by surviving and charming the staff that cared for her. Growing up in Worthington, Minnesota, the eldest child to 5 siblings, she became the first female lifeguard at the lake’s beach and earned a scholarship to college as a result of her many awards for speech and debate. She was a teacher, a candidate for Minnesota State Legislature, a homemaker, a market manager, a cancer survivor and worked in Disability Services for the City of Bloomington. As an empty-nester, she gutted and renovated a house, doing much of the work herself.

Judey had a keen intellect, a life-long curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and was incredibly well-spoken. She loved reading, technology, classical music and do-it-yourself home improvement. She was ebullient, with sparkling eyes and a contagious smile that could light up a room. Her sense of humor, optimism and acceptance and delight of others made her a pleasure to be around. She was loved by all.

Preceded in death by parents, Elizabeth Bassett and Wayne Bassett; brothers, Tommy, Wayne and Eugene Bassett; granddaughter, Sadie Miller. Survived by her loving children, Melissa (Trent Petterson) Hansing, Justina (Paul) Miller, Ethan (Rebecca) Hansing; grandchildren, Madeline and Carl Miller, Noah and Caleb Petterson, Rowan and Elsa Hansing; sisters, Constance and Roxanne Bassett; sister-in-law, Pam Bassett; former husband James (Paz) Hansing and many nephews, nieces, and friends.

A special and heartfelt thank you to the staff of Rakhma/Harmony House and Our Lady of Peace Hospice.
