Obituary of Bernadine "Bernie" Agnes Kujawa

Bernadine “Bernie” Agnes Kujawa (nee Ryan), 72, went to rest with Jesus on Feb. 5, 2020. She died at home in her sleep. She was born June 4, 1947 in Duluth, MN to Philip and Margaret (nee Haley) Ryan. She attended St. James Catholic School, Denfeld High School, and Lake Superior Vocational (college) for 1 year. She graduated high school on her 17th birthday. She worked 40 years as an LPN at St. Luke’s Hospital straight out of college, early on working about 1 ½ years at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN then returning to St. Luke’s. She retired in 2005, the same day as her husband.

She married Daniel Kujawa at St. James Catholic Church on July 1, 1972. She was strong in her Catholic faith, a true Bingo devotee, and loved being a grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Daniel Jr., brothers Tom Ryan and Patrick Ryan.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Daniel Kujawa, sons Jody (April Ellingsen) Kujawa, Marc (Stephanie) Kujawa, daughter Danielle Kujawa, granddaughter Arianna Thieling, grandson Marc Kujawa Jr., sisters Maureen Ryan, Eileen (Dennis) Scheunemann, Colleen Arfman, Kathy (Greg) Sicotte, Helen (Denis Sullivan) Ryan, brothers Dan (Linnea) Ryan, Mike (Katie) Ryan, sister-in-law Pat Ryan, best friend Linda (Bob) Mrozik and a great many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sun. Feb. 9, 5-7pm at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN. Funeral mass will be Monday Feb. 10, 11am at St. James Catholic Church, 715 N 57th Ave. W Duluth, MN, officiated by Fr. Pio Atonio, with visitation at 10am. Lunch will be served right after mass in the social hall. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
