Obituary of Reynold Clifford Lyng

Reynold “Rasty” Clifford Lyng, 80, of Madison, MN, passed away on October 4, 2018 at New Perspectives Senior Living surrounded by family.

Reynold “Rasty” Clifford Lyng was born in Madison, MN to Raymond and Hulda Lyng on January 28, 1938 at 11:30 a.m. He was the proud brother of Francis Anderson and Nancy Lotthammer. Rasty attended school in Madison, MN where he was active in football and socializing with everyone. Rasty was a very hard and dedicated worker starting at a young age with shoveling coal and digging potatoes with and for his dad on the railroad. Rasty had aspirations of going to Augsburg College until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor which he lost his sight for a while and then it meant having to drop out of school and many treatments up at the U of M hospital where his appendix still sits in a jar.

After working with his dad Rasty got a job at Municipal Castings, Inc. where he was a foundry worker while working there he went through many accidents ranging from a metal pipe falling on him and breaking his ribs, propane explosion that left him with 3 degree burns and the final accident of stepping off a bobcat that finally made him retire for good in 1988. Rasty did many odd jobs a lengthy time working part time at Fisher Furniture.

Married Lillian Sailor on July 25, 1970 in Tintah MN. It was a very hot day I have been told. A year later they were welcomed with the birth of their daughter Claudette Marla Lyng.

Rasty did many things for the community and was an active member in Faith Lutheran Church with luther league and in the local Lions Club. Lion Rasty became a member of the Madison Lions Club in 1981, serving in several positions including Club President and Membership Chair. Always ready to pitch in to support club activities like the annual Turkey Bingo, family Christmas program, Food Shelf, and snow cone sales to name just a few, Lion Rasty set a great example of service for the many new members he sponsored. Being a Lion in a community like Madison was just part of his giving nature. He proudly earned the 25-Year Chevron and became a Melvin Jones Fellow which supported his commitment to serving those in need, a kind person who will be truly missed. Teamwork was important to Lion Rasty especially dating back to the early years of the Madison Lions Club when they worked with other community partners to refurbish the Grand Theatre.

Rasty was a sweet, genuine, loving, dedicated man. Rasty was always running plates of fresh baked goods to the neighbors, having holiday parties, and doing the annual pig roast for his job. Rasty was one to put everyone before himself especially his daughter and grand-kids. Rasty cherished Dominique, Darnelle and Monique like they were his own children. Even in the last stages of the Alzheimer’s he would always remember Dominique, Darnelle and Monique by calling the people that took care of them by their names.

I guess people always said that Rasty had nine lives after all he went through in his life but now it was finally time for him to rest and be with parents and other family in heaven.

Reynold “Rasty” Clifford Lyng is proceed in death by parents Raymond and Hulda Lyng.

Reynold “Rasty” Clifford Lyng is survived by his wife Lillian Lyng of Madison, daughter Claudette Lyng of Fridley, MN, sisters Frances Anderson of Andover, MN, Nancy Lotthammer of Maple Grove, MN and grandsons Dominique Lyng of Fridley, MN, Darnelle Lyng of Fridley, MN and grand-daughter Monique Jackson-Lyng of Fridley.

The family of Reynold “Rasty” Clifford Lyng wishes to extend their sincere thanks to New Perspectives Senior Living Facility and Staff for the great caring and loving care you gave Rasty for the last 4 years of his life, Hospice group for their outstanding hands on care of Rasty, to all the friends and family that took time out of their busy schedules to come and visit Rasty.
