Dennis Walker

Obituary of Dennis M. Walker

Our dearly loved Dennis, of Rosemount, MN, died peacefully on February. 22, 2018 surrounded by his family at the age of 82. He was born August 14, 1935 to Elizabeth & James Walker. He married the love of his life, Marilyn 'Lynn' Schulte, on April 19, 1958. Immediately after the wedding, they packed up their pink Nash Rambler and drove down to El Paso, TX for the start of his military service. A year later, and now with one daughter in tow, they moved back to Detroit for Dennis to finish his commitment to the military and raise his growing family. Dennis graduated from Wayne State University with his Master's Degree in Computer Engineering and entered the new field of computer-aided design with Chrysler. As he loved to say, "If I had one claim to fame, my work allowed Chrysler to design a new car in 18 months instead of three years." Over the next few years, Dennis and Lynn's family grew to include three more daughters. Their time in Detroit was filled with many loving memories as their neighborhood became more like family than friends. However, Dennis' career called and in 1975, an offer from Control Data moved the family to Minnesota. Dennis was devoted to his family, faith and community. If he heard of a person in need, he looked for a way to help. If there was a cause he believed in, he worked to advance that cause. Dennis was instrumental in the early day of Focus Hope in Detroit and later in life he spent many hours helping at Fruit of the Vine Food Shelf. He worked for and was an active member at South Metro Vineyard Church. Dennis will be remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor and dedication to his family. He would tell anyone who listened how proud he was of his four daughters, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and how blessed he was to have been married to Lynn. Celebration of Dennis' Life on Friday, March 2nd at 11 a.m. at Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina (952) 924-4100. Visitation 10.a.m.
