Obituary of Evan Merz

Evan B. “Pete” Merz… age 92 of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully February 27, 2018. He was a graduate of Monticello High School, and served in the 104th Infantry Division of the U.S Army in World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his discharge from Army service he graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He was on the faculty/staff of the University of Minnesota from 1952 until his retirement in 1990. Pete’s favorite pastimes were wood-working and sailing. Pete is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty, two sons David and Christopher, and grandchildren Jordan, Evan, and Hannah. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles and his daughter Melanie. In accordance with Pete’s wishes there will be no ceremony; memorials may be made charitable organizations of the donor’s choice. Following cremation, Pete’s remains will be held until the death of his wife Betty, at which time they will be interred together at Fort Snelling. Pete was a devoted husband and father, and will be missed by all that have known him.
