Obituary of Walter Carlson

Walter (Walt) Carlson, 84, Duluth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 28 with his beloved children and grandchildren by his side. Walt was born Oct. 16, 1930 to Andrew and Josephine Calrson. He grew up in Duluth and graduated from Central High School. He also attended UMD. He married Eleanor (Ellie) Woods Nov. 1, 1958 and enjoyed many happy years until her passing in June 2012. Walt and his childhood friend Walt Iverson founded Carlson Concrete Products in 1953. He employed numberous and dedicated employees throughout the years. Walt never missed a day of work until his passing. Walter was a long time member of the Mystic Shriners AAD Temple, Masonic Lodge, Lake Avenue Loafers, Palistine Lodge 79. He was also in the 148th Airborne and U.S. Air Force. Walt's family, friends and employees were extremely important to him and often showed by his kindness and generosity to each and every one of them. He also donated to numerous charities throughout the years. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Josephine Carlson; wife, Ellie; son, Michael; grandson, Nick; and nephew, John Woods. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Bob Brooks), Linda and Cheryl, (Todd Rehbein); his six beloved grandchildren, Brian, Nate and Melissa Rehbein, Justin Schendel and Ali and Sharon Carlson and Darwin Carlson; great grandchildren, William and Ryan Rehbein; brother and sisters-in-law, Russ and Joanne Woods, Mary and Bob Gerlach; nieces and nephews, extended family and numerous friends. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Essentia Coronary Care Unit. VISITATION: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 in Cremation Society, 4100 Grand Ave, Duluth. A gathering of family and friends to follow at the All American Club, 1931 W Michigan St, Duluth. Military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
