Wendy Massena

Obituary of Wendy Lynn Massena

On March 22, 2018, the world lost a phenomenal wife, mom, grandma and friend. Wendy Lynn (Rau) Massena, a lifelong resident of Duluth, unexpectedly went to be with our Lord. Wendy was born on September 17, 1946 to Vernon and Elsie (Johnson) Rau. She was a 1964 graduate of Morgan Park High School, where she sang in the choir and twirled her baton as a majorette. On August 21, 1975, Wendy was united in marriage to Richard S. Massena. Wendy enjoyed spending time with family, meeting friends for coffee, having daily phone conversations with her daughter and talking with her favorite niece in Pennsylvania every couple of days, meeting high school friends to celebrate birthdays or holidays, "thrifty shopping" with friends, quilting, sewing, reading, gardening, and working with crafts or going to craft stores. She was also a part of an unofficial "Red Hat Society." Any time she was at a gathering, you would find her helping to serve people or cleaning up after. Her greatest passion was spending time with her granddaughter, Savanna, and grand-pup, Schnitzel Dog. Wendy was preceded in death by her parents. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard; daughter, LeeAnna (Brian) Luoma of Duluth; granddaughter, Savanna; stepchildren Joseph (Margie) Massena of Hermantownand Leann Reid of Idaho and their families; brother, Wayne (Kathy) Rau of Minneapolis; and many other friends and relatives. A gathering of family and friends in celebration of Wendy's life will be held at a later time at her daughter and son-in-laws country home, where she enjoyed spending time. Mom, grandma, Wendy, you are loved and missed more than you can ever imagine. Until we see you again. God Bless you!
