Obituary of Helen Marie Flamang

Helen Marie (Hunt) Flamang, 84 of Solon Springs, passed away Friday March 23, 2018 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Helen was born April 20, 1933 in Ashland WI to the late Roy and Gertrude (Pearce) Hunt. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1950 and worked for the law firm of Pray, Pray, and Clark. Helen met Richard Flamang Jr. on a blind date, and on March 10, 1962 they were married. They made their home in Solon Springs, enjoyed 43 years of marriage, raised three children, and together owned and managed Flamang Oil Company for many years. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her growing family and friends. The cookie jar was never empty and was always the first stop at Grandma's house. The grandkids looked forward to heart shaped sugar cookies arriving with a handwritten note on Valentine's Day and everyone enjoyed her handmade caramels and the games of cards at Christmas. After retirement, Helen especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sitting outside enjoying the warm days at the lake, caring for her flowers, and listening to the loons as the sun set. Helen is now together with her husband Richard, her parents, and 3 brothers. Among those who survive her are, one son: Richard (Teresa) Flamang of Park City, UT; two daughters: Katherine (Curt) Field of Weyauwega, WI and Kristin Flamang (Michael Mezei) of Wausau, WI; seven grandchildren: Lauren, Grant, Ian, Ellen, Hannah, Samantha, and Landon; brother-in-law: Herbert (Darlene) Flamang; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Helen's life will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Hidden Greens Golf Course in Solon Springs. Private burial will be at a later date. Helen's family would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated staff at St. Mary's for their compassionate care.
