Obituary of James Gunderson
James “Stuart” Gunderson, 54, of Duluth, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in St. Luke’s Hospice.
He was born November 5, 1960 in Duluth to Robert and Catherine Gunderson. He graduated from Central High School then attended Salter Tech where he graduated as a welder. He worked for Gustafson Equipment for a short time then was hired Bentec where he was employed for 14 years. He had a motorcycle accident in 1994 after which he struggled with a traumatic brain injury. He worked with Employment Links and after trying several jobs he found his niche as “Butt Boy” at the Plaza Shopping Center. He kept the parking lot and sidewalks clean of debris and “butts.” He worked there for approximately 10 years and loved his job.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; brother Charles and his grandparents.
Stuart is survived by his mother, Catherine; brothers Ken of Bellefontaine, OH; brother Don (Heidi) and sister, Sherry of Duluth; 2 nieces, Kim and Noelle of Minneapolis.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. Knuth, Dr. S. Bonin, Dr. A. Silva-Benedict, Dr. Johnson, the staff at Chris Jensen Nursing Home and St. Luke’s Hospice Unit for their excellent care for Stuart.
Visitation will be held from 2 pm until the 3 pm celebration of life service on Monday, December 22, 2014 in Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Animal Allies. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
