Obituary of Catherine Jean Peterson
Catherine Jean Peterson passed away Dec. 17, 2014 at her home in Duluth, after a sudden illness. She was surrounded by family and close friends who were able to be present. Catherine was born Jan. 12, 1949 in Duluth to Warren and Grace Peterson. She graduated from East High School and attended UMD where she was active in the Modern Dance Club. She played Concert Bass in the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. She loved sailing and travel and spent extended periods in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Maui, and Mexico with her son and other close family members and friends. She was a Montessori teacher, the Executive Director at Duluth Community Action Program, and Executive Director at CHUMWorks/Lifecyclers Electronics Recycling. Throughout her career Catherine stayed true to her values of fairness and justice. Catherine was preceded in death by her father Warren. She is survived by her son Jesse and her granddaughter Makena; her mother Grace and her brother Warren (Phyllis); her niece and nephew Morgan (Bobby) and Jelm; many aunts, uncles and cousins; Amanda and Melissa whom she loved as daughters and many close friends. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed.
