Obituary of Walter G. Iverson
Iverson, Walter G. DDS age 89 of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on December 25, 2014. Walter was born January 19, 1925 and lived his entire life in Minneapolis. From an early age he helped support his mother and three sisters. While attending the University of Minnesota, Walter was inducted into the U.S. Army. He had an early interest in photography which led to his appointment to the Army Signal Corp in Long Island City, NY. After military service, Walter met and married the love of his life, Mary Lydia (Vrudny). They celebrated their 65th anniversary earlier this year. Walter earned both his BA degree and degree in Dentistry from the U of MN. He started a general practice of dentistry in Minneapolis in 1953, which continued into 1988. During his practice, Walter served on the faculty in pedodontics at the School of Dentistry from 1954 to 1965. He served as a pedodontic consultant to the Cleft Palate Maxillofacial Clinic at the School of Dentistry from 1965 to 1976. Walter also logged an impressive record as an active participant in organized dentistry. Walter raised a wonderful family, had many, many friends and was supported throughout his life by his faith in God. He was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church serving on many committees and he and Lydia were in the choir for many years. Walter was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish, especially on the "opener" at Lake McFarland. He is also remembered for his weekly golfing outings with his group of buddies. He and his wife, Lydia, enjoyed traveling together in their retirement years. He is preceded in death by his father, Walter, Mother, Florence and two sisters, Lavon and Beverly. Survivors include wife Lydia (of 65 yrs.), children, Kathy (Mike) Menzel, Bruce (Rita), Tom (Karen), Dave (Rita), Jim (Susie), John (Danka), 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grand-children. Services will be held on Friday, January 9 at 10 AM with visitation 1 hour prior at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 3045 Chicago Ave. So. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial gifts to the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Foundation. Our family is grateful for the compassionate care from the staff of Welcome Home.
