Obituary of Harold Monson Sorley
Sorley, Harold Monson “Dud” Passed away January 17, 2015 at age 84 at home in Minnetonka, Minnesota surrounded by his caring family. Dud was born on July 2, 1930 to Ida M. (Monson) and Harold A. Sorley in Fargo, North Dakota and he spent most of his life in Fargo. He graduated from Fargo Central High School and attended North Dakota State University, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and ROTC. He enjoyed family, friends, music, animals and the NDSU Bison football team. He enjoyed playing “Go Fish” with his granddaughters and lost every game!! He had a diverse work history which included farming small grain, a significant potato operation, raising Angus cattle in Cummings, North Dakota and varied business interests. He was a member of the Shiloh Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, El Zagal Shrine, Fargo Elk’s Club, North Dakota Angus Association, North Dakota Grain Dealers, United Methodist churches in both Fargo, ND and Excelsior, MN and served on the Board of The Salvation Army in Fargo, ND. His family will miss his outgoing friendliness, quick, dry sense of humor and his love for animals. His faithful dog, Dolly will miss the walks they took together. Dud is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Gaye; his children, Nanette McNees (Glenn), Ned (Virginia), Richard (Beth), Robert (Ada); grandchildren Christine, Robert, Sara, Kaitlyn, Alexa, Leanna; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Paisley, Beckett and Kimber. His parents, Ida and Harold and sister, Meredith “Susie” Horne (Vic) preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Fri., January 23, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Excelsior United Methodist Church 881 Third Ave. Excelsior, MN 55331. Private inurnment. In lieu of flowers, memorial requests may be made to the Music Ministry at Excelsior United Methodist Church or to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley, MN.
