Obituary of Frederick M. Salo
Frederick “Fred” M. Salo, 73, of Culver, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 in Solvay Hospice House in the company of his loving family.
Fred was born in Duluth, Minnesota on September 10, 1941 to Edward and Lillian (Garceau) Salo. He was a ---- graduate of Cathedral High School. He was united in marriage to Virginia Jazdzewski on November 27, 1970. Fred worked as an Iron Worker for the Local 563 for 54 years. He was their business manager for the last 21 of those years. Fred was consumed by the labor union and was unapologetic in his staunch support for its union members. He was president of the Duluth Buildings Trade for 13 years and was active in many other groups and associations. Fred enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. He also enjoyed a solid argument relating to politics or unions. His hobby farm was dotted with “special treasures” that he found at sales and local auctions. Fred liked spending time at the family cabin north of Island Lake and getting lost in his own Bermuda Triangle. Above everything else, he cherished his family and the time and memories that they shared.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
