Obituary of Donald Richard Hurd

Donald Richard Hurd passed away on April 20, 2015 at the age of 83. He was born on August 11, 1931 to Bernard and Daisy (Kopp) Hurd in Watertown, SD. He attended grade school at the Immaculate Conception Catholic School and high school at Watertown High School, Watertown, SD. He started working for Metz Baking Company in 1948 moving to Glenwood in 1952 continuing to work for Metz Baking Company retiring from there in 1981. Don married Joyce Blocker February 2, 1950. They had 9 children who were all raised in Glenwood. Joyce passed away January 26, 1979. In December 1981, Don married Luella Beecher. They lived in Glenwood, Willmar and Kerkhoven, MN. After the passing of Luella April 8, 1990, Don moved back to Glenwood. Don is survived by his sister Dolores Gustafson, nine children: Lynn (Craig) Chapman, Donald (Carolyn) Hurd, Joan (Robert) Holtberg, Patricia (Allen) Braaten, Donna Myers, Michael Hurd, Thomas (Donna) Hurd, Richard Hurd and Carol (Sam) Aviles; grandchildren: Scott (Jamie) Chapman, Shane Chapman, Kim (Jeff) Wheeler, Keith (Kirsten) Hurd, Jeff (Angela) Holtberg, Jenny (Troy) Wihlm, Sara (Chris) Stallman, Matthew Hodsdon, JoAnn (Tim) Hanson, Glenn Myers, Anthony (Shawna) Aviles, Daniel Aviles, Doug Hurd, Donnie Toof, Derek Hurd, Shawn Hurd, Layne Hurd, Travis Hurd, Scott Hurd and Tammy (Hurd) Tafte; step-children Kathy (David) Burkhart, Lorri Beecher, and Todd (Carla) Beecher and their families. Don also has many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents Bernard & Daisy, his first wife Joyce, second wife Luella, sister Phyllis Warren, brother-in-law Glen Gustafson, stepson Lee Beecher, son-in-law Murl Myers, grandsons Brad Holtberg, Thomas Hurd Jr., Stephen Chapman and Shad Chapman. Funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, MN on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Cremation was provided by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
