Obituary of James Peter Koutsoyan
James Peter Koutsoyan, 78, passed away April 26, 2015. Jim was a lifelong resident of Duluth born to James E. Koutsoyan and Helen Fromberg Koutsoyan on March 22, 1937. He attended Denfeld High School and spent his time swimming in Twin Ponds, golfing at Enger Park, and skiing down the hills around Skyline. He followed his father into Ironwork and was a proud member of the Iron Workers Local #512.
In 1959 Jim married Marlene Downs and together they had two children. They spent their summers camping and traveling with family and friends, whether it was the shared blue bus at a local lake or traveling across country in the motorhome. An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed the changing of the seasons, fishing and grouse and deer hunting, then football, hockey and ice fishing. In his spare time Jim loved to golf, achieving two holes in one, one at Pattison Park Golf Course on Sept. 1995, and another at Lester Park Golf Course in July 2004. Every Saturday Jim could be found at Bergey’s playing cards with lifelong friends.
Jim was preceded in death by Marlene Koutsoyan, his parents and step mother, Francis Koutsoyan, and his beloved sisters Betty (Dave) Carlson and Nancy Fournier.
He is survived by his children Steven (Gloria) Koutsoyan and Sherry (Bill) Daeda; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim will be fondly remembered at a celebration of his life at Bergy’s, 2232 W. Superior St., on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 1 to 4 p.m.
