Obituary of Lorraine A Rood

Lorraine A. Rood, age 87, formerly of Duluth, passed away at GracePointe Crossing Gables West in Cambridge, MN on May 12, 2015. She was born to Erick and Christine Carlson in Duluth, MN on August 2, 1927. After she graduated from Denfeld High School in 1945, Lorraine worked as a bookkeeper for the West Duluth Clinic. She married Gerald Rood in 1949 and became a homemaker. They were married for 54 years. Lorraine was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Hermantown, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Twig. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald in 2004; sisters, Sigrid Ostlund of Hermantown, MN; Margaret Johnson of Grand Rapids, MN; and Gertrude Wigren of Duluth, MN. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Scott of Cambridge, MN; son Kevin Rood (Bonnie) of Robbinsdale; grandchildren Michael Rood of Souix Falls SD; Shannon Rood and Jamie Rood, of Robbinsdale; Nathan Benoit of Duluth, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, and many other close relatives and friends. Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Twig Minnesota on Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m., with visitation an hour prior to the service; internment to follow at a later date at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Hermantown, MN. Special thanks to the staff at GracePointe Crossing Gables West and Alina Hospice who cared so compassionately for Lorraine during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Lorraine’s name to the Hope Fund, a program of the Cambridge Medical Center Foundation that provides financial assistance to patients fighting breast cancer.
