Obituary of Winifred Cora Strobel

Winifred Cora (Stanton) Strobel, 98, passed away August 5, 2016, after a brief illness. Winifred was born in Mankato, MN to Walter and Cora (Larson) Stanton on April 7, 1918. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1937. Win attended Miss Walter's School of Dress Design on 57th and Nicollet, Minneapolis. She met her late husband of 61 years in Mankato when he was home on leave from the service. Robert and Winifred were married September 8, 1945. Win worked for Brick Uniform Company as a factory dressmaker, Twin City Seed Company as a seed analyst, Baker Company as a salesperson, and The Lake Street SEARS in the paint department. Win enjoyed family activities, visiting relatives, summer vacations with family, many pets, doing crafts, volunteering her time with church, Campfire Girls, Indian Guides and Indian Princesses, winters in Arizona, and Mallwalker friends at MOA. Win was known for her beautiful calligraphy. Win's hair was red her entire life. She did not dye it. Winifred is preceded in death by her husband Robert Strobel, her parents Walter and Cora (Larson) Stanton, and many beloved friends and relatives. She is survived by her son James (Nancy) of Golden Valley, daughter Wendy(Ron) Morreim of Brainerd, son Scott (Sarah Taylor) of Maplewood, grandsons Andrew Morreim, Zack Strobel, David Taylor, and great grandsons Alexander and Christopher Taylor, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her MOA Mallwalker friends and her special lifelong friend Alice Streed. Visitation (10AM), funeral service (11AM) and luncheon will be at Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 50th Street, Minneapolis, August 10, 2016. Internment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Minnehaha United Methodist Church.
