Obituary of Joanne Marie Peterson
Peterson, Joanne Marie (Sogge) Joan always preferred this version of her name regardless of the confusion it sometimes caused. She was born in her grandmother's home in Coulter, Iowa, and died at our home in Richfield on Aug 6th about two hours short of her 86th birthday (also her 61st wedding anniversary). Her parents, Prof. Tillman and Anita Madson Sogge and infant sister Solveig, preceded her in death. Husband James, sister Sonja Almgren, daughters Lisa Rovick and Solveg Adamson and granddaughters Keisha Ashley and Birgitte Simpson survive her. Joan was a born teacher: at Minneapolis' Pierce Elementary, Roseville's Lexington Elementary and in Malaysia as a tutor for Cambridge exam non-English students. Her degrees were conferred by St. Olaf College (where her father taught and where she sang in Olaf Christianson's choir) and the Univ. of Minnesota. On Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 am, a memorial service will be held at St. Peder's Lutheran Church, 4600 East 42nd Street, Minneapolis 55406. Lunch will be served afterwards. Special thanks to Allina Hospice personnel for months of expert care and to wonderful friends and neighbors for all sorts of help & support. Memorials (no flowers, please) may be directed to any charity of your choice or to St. Peder's Lutheran Church.
