Obituary of June J. Nurmi

June J. Nurmi, 96, of Duluth passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. She was born July 17, 1920 in Duluth to Carl and Alina Jensen. June was a longtime member and volunteer at Arnold Lutheran Church (Family of God). She loved her vegetable garden, sewed all her children's clothes and knitted for her family. She enjoyed dancing and rock hunting with her husband and her grandchildren. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world. June was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Hillstrom and Nels Nurmi; sons, John Hillstrom and Martin Nurmi; and a brother, Edwin Jensen. She is survived by her children, Beverly Joki Green, Connie (Robert), Barber, Helen (Joseph) Youngs and Marilyn (Wayne) Brooks; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank Joe Youngs "her go to guy" for all he did. GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Thursday, Sept. 29, in Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. 2nd. Superior.
