Obituary of Patrick S. Hughes

Patrick Sarsfield Hughes died at the Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji Minnesota, on October 10, 2016 at 79 years of age. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m, Saturday, October 22, at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Bemidji with a reception following mass. Patrick was born on January 5, 1937 to Philip and Ann Hughes in Crookston, Mn and grew up in St Vincent, Mn. Patrick worked in the auto body and then construction fields for many years. Later in life, he went to clock school and loved working on old clocks. His favorite "job" however, was after retirement as a foster grandparent helping children at Central School and then St. Philip's School in Bemidji with reading and math skills. Although he had no children, he loved to say that he had 38 kids that called him "Grandpa Pat." Patrick is survived by one sister, Marcia (Richard) Evans, and three brothers, Leonard (Betty) of Nevada, Daniel (Norma) of Lake Park, Mn, and Timothy (Kathleen) of Bemidji Mn, as well as two sister-in-laws, Darlene (Philip) Hughes of Alaska and Margaret (Edward) Hughes of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Preferred memorials are to St. Philip's School, Bemidji.
