Obituary of Mary Rose Miles

Mary Rose Miles, 96, of Carlton, formerly of Cloquet passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at the Interfaith Care Center in Carlton. Mary was born March 24, 1920 in Duluth to Joseph and Disolina Summers and was a graduate of Duluth Central High School. Mary met her husband Arthur A. Miles at a Y.M.C.A. dance and they danced their way into marriage in July of 1948, remaining happily married for over 50 years. Mary and Art were longtime residents of Cloquet and worked together in their accounting firm, Arthur Miles Accounting, for many years. During her life, Mary was active in the community. She was a member and Past President of the VFW Auxiliary, volunteered at the Cloquet Library, helped Art in the Kiwanis and was a tour guide at Glensheen Mansion. Mary also enjoyed bowling, crocheting, bridge and her deep and lasting friendships. She was a devoted friend and neighbor that could always be counted on in times of need. Her favorite activity was dancing. She and Art belonged to a few dance clubs and attended dances in Cloquet, Duluth and the surrounding area. Only illness, severe weather or possibly tax season kept them off the dance floor. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Caroline; brother, John; and niece, Mary Jo. She is survived by her son, Michael (Kari) Miles and grandson, Tate, all of Anchorage. Alaska; her sister, Rose Engstrom of Duluth; nephews, Jack (Bonnie) Sylvester of Duluth, Mark Engstrom of Toronto, Canada, Scott (Jan) Engstrom of Esko; and Goddaughter, Kalee Thaler of Duluth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Golden Kiwanis Club, Arthur Miles Scholarship Fund. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling with her husband, Art.
