Obituary of Kenneth H Thomas
Age 88, of Shoreview, MN
Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 19, 2016. Ken was a shining example of the greatest generation. He was a kind, humble, wise man with a gentle sense of humor. He was also a wonderful role model to his children and a devoted husband. Ken was a proud Korean War Army veteran. He received his PhD at the University of Minnesota and went on to work there as an Extension Farm Management Specialist and professor in the Agricultural Economics Department for 36 years. Ken loved traveling, writing, researching genealogy, landscaping, and was an avid fan of Golden Gopher sports. Ken was also passionate about serving the needs of people dealing with mental health issues by founding and then leading a depression support group for more than 15 years and volunteering with various state mental health organizations.
Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kay Adell Setter Thomas; parents Howard and Marjorie and sister, Dorothy.
Survived by children, Paula, Sue and Scott (Jill); grandchildren Ali (David) O’Reilly, and Matthew.
The family would like to thank all who provided such excellent, loving care to Ken and his wife at Waverly Gardens care facility. Memorials preferred to Mental Health Minnesota.
A gathering of family and friends for a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Road, North Oaks, MN.
